The Business Intelligence Engineerleads the design and development of our BI solutions. In this role, you will be responsible for architecting end-to-end BI frameworks that enable robust data reporting, analytics, and insights across the organization. The ideal candidate will bridge the gap between business needs and technical capabilities, ensuring that our BI infrastructure is scalable, secure, and aligned with strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Business Intelligence Architecture and Strategy
Design and implement a comprehensive BI architecture that integrates data from various sources into a unified reporting and analytics environment, which must support a wide range of business needs, ensuring scalability and performance.
Develop and maintain a BI strategy that supports business objectives and drives data-driven decision-making.
Design, establish, and manage semantic layer for the analytics team using modern frameworks.
Regularly review and refine data architectures, reporting solutions, and the semantic layer to ensure they adapt to evolving business needs.
Stay current with industry best practices and emerging trends in BI, data governance, and analytics technology.
Ensure data quality and consistency through robust cleansing, validation, and transformation processes. Tool and Platform Management
Evaluate and implement BI tools and technologies that best meet organizational needs.
Oversee the deployment, configuration, and management of BI platforms, ensuring high availability and performance.
Administer BI environments, including user provisioning, roles, permissions, and project hierarchy management.
Implement and maintain content governance policies, certified data sources, and manage environment deployment workflows.
Monitor usage, performance, and adoption metrics across BI platforms to optimize resource allocation and user experience.
Establish and manage the automation and observability of reporting systems, proactively identifying data anomalies and dashboard issues.
Create, review, and optimize report specifications, ensuring data accuracy and efficient data retrieval from multiple sources.
Establish and enforce best practices for report development, documentation, and version control.
Partner with the analytics team on more complex initiatives to create dashboards and reports using BI tools. Collaboration and Stakeholder Management
Work closely with business stakeholders, data analysts, and IT teams to understand reporting requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
Provide technical leadership and guidance throughout the lifecycle of BI projects, from conceptual design to production deployment.
Design dashboards for self-service analytics, empowering business users to explore data independently.
Build reusable templates, metric definitions, and standardized reporting components to enable data democratization across the organization.
Develop training materials and conduct workshops to empower end-users with self-service BI capabilities.
Data Integration and Modeling
- Collaborate with data engineers and data modelers to design data pipelines and models optimized for reporting and analysis, ensuring data quality and consistency.
- Ensure that the data integration processes are robust, scalable, and adhere to data governance standards.
- Develop and optimize dimensional data models that support high-performance reporting and analytics.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to ensure that business rules and master data management (MDM) principles are applied appropriately for insightful analytics.
- Design, develop, and maintain a semantic layer that translates complex technical data structures into accessible business concepts and metrics. This includes creating business-friendly definitions, measures, and calculated fields to support self-service analytics and reporting.
- Manage reporting data governance policies to ensure compliance with data security and privacy standards.
- Contribute to enterprise-wide data governance initiatives, including stewardship of metadata, access and security, monitoring and controls, and data quality metrics.
- Establish and monitor data validation and quality assurance practices, ensuring that robust automated testing frameworks are in place for both data pipelines and reporting solutions.
- Collaborate with teams to develop and maintain automated tests that verify data accuracy, consistency, and overall system performance.
Documentation and Training
- Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for reporting architectures, data flows, and technical processes.
- Develop training materials and conduct workshops to empower end-users and internal teams with BI capabilities.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in business intelligence, data warehousing, or data architecture, with at least 2 years in a data engineering role.
- Proficiency in BI tools - Tableau (including Tableau Server/Cloud administration), Power BI.
- Strong proficiency in dbt (data build tool) for data transformation, modeling, and semantic layer development.
- Demonstrated experience with Tableau Server/Cloud administration, including user provisioning, roles, permissions, project hierarchy, content governance, and managing deployment workflows.
- Proven ability to diagnose and optimize dashboard performance, including query optimization, extract vs live connection tradeoffs, and reducing computational complexity.
- Strong experience with data modeling, SQL, and ETL processes.
- Experience designing self-service analytics solutions and building reusable templates and metric definitions for data democratization.
- Familiarity with modern data platforms, including cloud-based data warehouses (Databricks, Snowflake, etc.) and data lake architectures.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to translate complex business requirements into effective technical solutions.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with a proven track record of working with cross-functional teams.
- A strategic mindset with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Experience with agile methodologies in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of data governance frameworks and data security best practices.
- Certification in relevant BI tools (Tableau Desktop Specialist/Certified Professional, Tableau Server Certified Associate, etc.) or data management platforms.
- Experience with dbt Cloud and advanced dbt features (metrics, exposures, packages).
- Familiarity with DataOps practices and CI/CD pipelines for analytics.
Working Conditions:
- Environment: Office setting, with occasional travel for meetings or events.
- Hours: Full-time, typically Monday to Friday, with flexibility to work outside regular hours as needed.
