Job Summary: The Player Development Pitching and Applied Sports Science Intern will support coaching and the integration of pitching related data, information, and technology for Player Development Pitching initiatives.

Experience* Experience playing or working in college and/or professional baseball or softball; coaching experience preferred.

• Knowledge of current baseball, sport science, and biomechanics research as they pertain to player development, pitching, and in-game strategy.
• Knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, database and presentation software (Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
• Proficiency with database querying (e.g., SQL) and statistical software (e.g., R, Python) strongly desired.
• Familiarity and improved knowledge in the following areas:

• Mechanical instruction
• Pre-Throw/Throwing/Post-Throw programs and drills
• Pitching technology (e.g., Edgertronic, Rapsodo, TrackMan)
• Biomechanics
• TruMedia

Other* Spoken and written fluency in English.

• Spanish language ability preferred.
• Willing to relocate. The position is based in Goodyear, AZ at the Reds Player Development Complex.

**Primary Duties & Responsibilities:DutyDescription**Coaching & Player Development– 50%

• Fulfill coaching responsibilities and tasks as assigned. These may include:

• Embrace and coach with a balanced approach, valuing both the arts and the sciences
• Hold players accountable for their own development
• Maintain standards of throwing program, pitch execution, and pitching metrics
• Monitor Player Plans and ensure that goals and processes are being executed:

• Aid in the creation of Player Plans.
• Provide video feedback.
• Complete post-game and post-bullpen reports.
• Fulfill post-game and post-bullpen expectations.

Research & Communication – 50%

• Review athlete monitoring and other on-field and off-field data as assigned to ensure timely and appropriate communication of key insights to Applied Sports Science and other designated staff.
• Liaise with Player Development, Pitching, Applied Sports Science, and Analytics departments to facilitate interdisciplinary player support and implementation of Player Plans and Action Plans.
• Contribute to research projects and other Pitching and Applied Sports Science initiatives, adapting to team needs and organizational priorities.
• Conduct approved independent research projects to generate new insights and applications that lead to innovation or improvement in coaching, player support, or decision-making.
• Ensure ethical management of player performance data, maintaining confidentiality and compliance with organization and legal standards.

Reports To:* Minor League Pitching Coordinators

Physical Requirements:* Ability to sit, stand and walk for extended periods throughout the day.

• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds (supplies, machinery, etc.).
• Ability to bend, squat, reach, and climb stairs regularly in the course of daily duties
• Comfortable working in varying conditions (heat, humidity, cold, outdoors, confined spaces like office/cubicles and locker rooms).
• Ability to handle repetitive tasks at a computer.
• Sufficient hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity for tasks like computer work, note-taking, etc.
• Ability to work long shifts with long and variable hours, including weekends and holidays.
• Ability to drive and/or fly short and long distances, day or night in various conditions.
• Depending on role assigned, must be able to execute baseball-related activity, including throwing BP, hitting fungos, shagging, etc.
