Position Summary:
The Software Engineer Intern will have exposure to the end-to-end development of features within the Seattle Kraken + CPA (Climate Pledge Arena) app, including feature design, end-to-end architecture, development, manual and automated testing, and releasing app updates. This role will work closely with three engineers at the mid to senior level and VP, Digital Innovation and Fan Experience to shape fans’ digital access to the Kraken and other sports and events at Climate Pledge Arena. The ideal candidate has a strong technical foundation, communication skills, and a curiosity for the intersection of technology and the sports and events industry.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Collaborate on ideation of new features and improvements to existing features in the Seattle Kraken + CPA app.
- Follow design documents, architecture diagrams, and technical specification documents.
- Write clean, maintainable code to add to the Seattle Kraken + CPA app codebase using React Native, JavaScript/TypeScript, and occasionally Swift and Kotlin.
- Assist in developing APIs and back-end services on AWS.
- Help prepare Seattle Kraken + CPA app updates for release on iOS and Android devices.
- Support the Digital Innovation and Fan Experience team in understanding app performance by reviewing app metrics and qualitative feedback from users.
- Participate in an Agile workflow, including sprint ceremonies like Retrospective, Sprint Planning, and a daily Scrum meeting.
- Shadow an engineer’s on-call experience once – responding to requests, monitoring app performance, and preparing for usage spikes around games and events.
- Other duties as assigned.

Required Experience & Qualifications:
- Experience with data-structures and algorithms in a general-purpose programming language
- Ability to write clean, maintainable code prioritizing simplicity and reusability in a general-purpose programming language
- Ability to write basic test coverage
- Familiarity with version control
- Can translate between thought and written code
- Can apply feedback to iteratively improve their code
- An adaptable problem-solver and a strong verbal and written communicator.
Compensation & Perks:
- In accordance with Washington’s Equal Pay and Opportunity Act, the pay range for the position is $21.50-$22.50/hr. Actual base pay will depend on the employee’s experience and other job-related factors permitted by law.

Working Conditions:
- This role is based on-site in our Seattle office and requires work to be performed in person. However, we do value flexibility as the business will allow and offer occasional opportunities to work from home.
- This role will work approximately 20-30 hours per week. Hours may fluctuate based on school schedule, work assigned, etc.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule inclusive of weekends, nights and holidays required.
- Frequent bending, lifting 15-20 pounds, sitting, exposure to multiple external elements, extensive walking through the building including inclines and stairs.
- Must have transportation to and from events.
