Position Summary/Objective:
The Vice President of Business Strategy & Analytics is a high-impact leadership role responsible for enabling better decisions across the organization through strategic insight, rigorous analysis, and strong cross-functional partnership. This role reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer / Chief Operating Officer and is accountable for shaping how the Minnesota Timberwolves compete and grow both on and off the court.
The ideal candidate brings a strong management consulting background and excels at framing complex business problems, structuring rigorous analyses, and translating insight into clear recommendations for senior leadership. Success in this role is defined by strategic influence, people leadership, and sound business judgment — not technical execution.
In addition, this role owns the analytics operating model for the organization, ensuring work is prioritized effectively, team capacity is managed sustainably, and stakeholders have clear visibility into what the team is working on, why it matters, and when outcomes can be expected.

Essential Functions:

Strategy & Planning
- Lead annual and long-range strategic planning processes, including materials prepared for senior leadership and ownership review
- Develop and execute growth strategies across revenue streams — ticketing, sponsorship, media, and emerging business lines
- Frame complex business problems with structure and rigor, translating ambiguity into clear, actionable recommendations for executive stakeholders
- Develop pricing strategy and tools to optimize yield across tickets, premium, and partnerships
- Lead org-design and operational improvement initiatives to drive efficiency across business units
Analytics & Data Platform
- Build and oversee analytics capabilities that translate data into actionable business insights
- Oversee the management and evolution of the organization’s data platform, ensuring infrastructure supports analytical and reporting needs across the business
- Lead special projects including fan segmentation, fan surveys, and other consumer insight initiatives that inform business strategy
- Drive standardization and accessibility of reporting to ensure consistent, trusted metrics across the organization
- Deliver executive-ready insights, dashboards, and presentations that inform key decisions
Cross-Functional Partnership
- Partner with Finance, Sales, Marketing, and Partnerships to identify and size opportunities for margin expansion and revenue growth
- Collaborate with the Partnerships team on sales strategy, retention strategy, and partner valuation frameworks
- Serve as a strategic thought partner to senior and functional leadership across the organization
- Manage department budget and serve as a resource for ad hoc analysis and evolving business needs
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead and develop the Business Strategy & Analytics team, fostering a high-performing, accountable, and curious culture
- Manage team capacity and priorities to focus on high-impact work while minimizing reactive, low-value requests
- Own analytics intake, prioritization, and roadmap — balancing strategic goals, urgency, and team capacity
- Provide clear, proactive communication on analytics initiatives, including status, timing, and impact

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other:
- Proven ability to frame and structure complex, ambiguous business problems and drive them to clear, actionable recommendations
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to convey complex findings in a clear, compelling, and credible manner to executive and ownership audiences
- Strong financial and analytical acumen — comfortable directing quantitative work and interpreting models without executing day-to-day technical tasks
- Advanced critical thinking, prioritization, and project management skills
- Curious self-starter who quickly learns new concepts and thrives in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment

**Experience:**7–10 years of experience in strategy, analytics, or a related field. A strong foundation in management consulting — Bain, McKinsey, BCG, or equivalent — is strongly preferred. Demonstrated success partnering with senior leaders to influence strategy and drive measurable business outcomes. 3+ years of people leadership experience required.
Education: Bachelor’s degree required in Economics, Business, Mathematics, Finance, or a related field. MBA from a top program strongly preferred.
Supervisory Responsibility, if any: This position does have supervisory responsibilities
Benefits & Compensation
The base salary range for this non-exempt role will be: $185,000-$215,000 depending on experience. There are also opportunities for an annual corporate bonus. Total compensation & offer package will include the following:Â

Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. Office hours are typically Monday-Friday from 8:30AM-5:30PM. In addition to working office hours staff may be required to work Timberwolves and Lynx home games, member events and meetings, and networking events. Work is generally sedentary in nature. The working environment is generally favorable. Work is generally performed within an office environment with standard office equipment available. This job also operates in a sports arena which includes bleachers/steps as well as moderate to high levels of noise.Â
Physical Demands
​​​​The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate and exchange information with others both in person and over the telephone. The employee frequently is required to remain in a stationary position, as well as operate computers and other office equipment, such as a copy machine, printer and telephone. Staff will frequently ascend and descend bleachers/steps and traverse around the arena both on event days and non-event days. Staff may occasionally move objects weighing up to 20 pounds.
