Position Summary
ŌURA is looking for a Senior UX Researcher to help define how people experience, understand, and build trust in AI-mediated health guidance.
This role sits at the intersection of user research, personalization, and health intelligence. You will study how members interpret and respond to recommendations, explanations, uncertainty, and adaptive experiences—and help define the design parameters that make the experience feel useful, understandable, appropriately confident, and worthy of trust.
You will partner closely with Product, Software Design, Data Science, Health AI, Behavior Science, Engineering, Clinical, and Health Science teams. This is an opportunity to shape an emerging research area at ŌURA: connecting rich behavioral and physiological signals with a deeper understanding of human intent, trust, agency, and decision-making.
What You’ll Do
- Own end-to-end research across generative, evaluative, and strategic studies focused on AI-mediated health experiences, personalization, and member decision-making.
- Investigate how members understand, accept, question, correct, or act on personalized recommendations and health guidance.
- Develop research approaches for ambiguous and rapidly evolving problem spaces, including conversational interfaces, adaptive systems, algorithmic recommendations, and LLM-powered experiences.
- Design and run mixed-methods studies with proven approaches or by designing novel instrumentation with a plan for evaluating the validity of that adapted method.
- Help define how ŌURA measures whether AI guidance is landing across different member segments, health contexts, and levels of engagement—including constructs such as trust, comprehension, perceived relevance, confidence, intent, and agency.
- Partner with Data Science and Health AI to connect qualitative insight with behavioral, biometric, and model-generated data without losing sight of the person behind the signal.
- Explore how multimodal and psychometric signals can help products respond more appropriately to members while respecting privacy, consent, and the limits of inference.
- Translate complex findings into clear product principles, measurement frameworks, design requirements, and recommendations that teams can act on.
- Help teams reason about explainability, uncertainty, calibration, override paths, and the moments when personalization becomes presumptuous or invasive.
- Bring research into roadmap and planning conversations early, influencing product direction through evidence and strong judgment.
- Communicate findings through compelling storytelling, workshops, and artifacts that build alignment across technical and non-technical partners.
- Contribute to a growing Design Research practice by sharing methods, creating reusable frameworks, and helping the organization learn faster and more responsibly.
What You’ll Bring
- 5+ years of research experience, with a track record of shaping product strategy through research.
- Experience researching AI-enabled, algorithmic, adaptive, personalized, or otherwise technically complex products. You do not need to be a data scientist, but you should be comfortable working closely with data science and engineering partners.
- Strong mixed-methods research skills, including qualitative research, evaluative studies, surveys, behavioral data, and experimentation. You know how to choose the right method for the question rather than defaulting to a familiar approach.
- Technical fluency: the ability to understand computational models, behavioral or biometric data, and system behavior well enough to identify what people-focused research can explain and what it cannot.
- Experience turning abstract human concepts—such as trust, intent, understanding, agency, or perceived accuracy—into research questions, measures, and product decisions.
- Strong judgment in high-stakes or sensitive contexts, including an appreciation for health literacy, privacy, consent, uncertainty, and the emotional impact of health information.
- Excellent communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to influence product and technical decisions without formal authority.
- Comfort operating independently in ambiguous spaces, managing multiple workstreams, and creating structure where the path forward is not yet clear.
- A member-centered approach and a commitment to research that is rigorous, inclusive, and grounded in the lived experience of the people using the product.
Bonus Points
- Background in human-AI interaction, HCI, cognitive psychology, computational modeling, behavior science, human factors, neuroscience, or a related field.
- Experience studying trust, reliance, explainability, human intent, or collaboration between people and AI systems, conversational agents, or robots.
- Experience with health, digital health, clinical technology, wearables, fitness, or other high-trust personalized products.
- Familiarity with psychometric instruments or other validated measures of trust, agency, health beliefs, or user experience.
- Experience working with multimodal signals, adaptive systems, real-time personalization, or closed-loop interactions.
- Experience using AI-supported research tools while maintaining strong standards for privacy, ethics, and study integrity.
