JOB TITLE: Data Engineer

LOCATION: Flexible (Stamford Bridge Onsite/ Hybrid or Fully Remote)

CONTRACT: Full time, permanent Role

 

The Opportunity

We are looking for a talented Data Engineer to play a pivotal role in shaping the data infrastructure that drives decision-making at Chelsea. This is a unique opportunity to build and optimize scalable data pipelines that fuel analytics across football operations, recruitment, and performance analysis. You will collaborate closely with world-class data scientists, analysts, and software engineers to develop high-performance systems that ensure seamless data flow and unlock new insights for the club.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain ETL pipelines to integrate and process structured and unstructured football data (e.g., event data, tracking data, player data).
• Build and optimize the databases that power cutting-edge analytics in professional football.
• Work closely with data scientists to facilitate model deployment and MLOps best practices.
• Implement and maintain cloud-based data solutions using platforms like Azure, AWS or GCP.
• Monitor system performance, optimize queries, and improve data infrastructure efficiency.
• Ensure data integrity, security, and governance across all internal and external data sources.

 

What you will bring to the role

• Ideally a degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering or related field
• Solid software engineering skills, with experience in object-oriented programming, package development, and designing maintainable and scalable systems.
• Previous experience in a data engineering or similar role.
• Strong SQL skills and experience working with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar).
• Strong database design and development skills.
• Proficiency in Python for data engineering tasks.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and big data technologies (Databricks, Snowflake, BigQuery, Spark).
• Solid understanding of MLOps frameworks and best practices, including model deployment workflows, model versioning, automated retraining, and monitoring**.**
