Job Title: Data Engineering Intern
Department: Information Technology
Reports To: Manager of Data Engineering
Job Purpose:
The data engineering intern will be exposed to a wide variety of technologies and practices meant to retrieve, process, and deliver data accurately and on time to support operations and analytics across the organization, including baseball and business needs. Using an established data platform and standards, the intern will learn and be responsible for quality assurance, data pipeline development, technology enhancement, requirements gathering, vendor communication, architectural decisions, and additional needs as dictated by short- and long-term planning. The goal of the internship is to produce a capable junior data engineer ready for a full-time position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:* Investigation, identification, and resolution of discrepancies and errors within datasets
- Creation and debugging of ETL pipelines
- Defining needs and gaps for new development and data creation
- Documentation of data processes, practices, and products for consumption by internal and external stakeholders
- Interdepartmental communication and collaboration with analytics, DevOps, IT, and operations
- Input and review of new and existing data platform architecture
- Research and educate on emerging and established technologies
- Maintain and enhance department technology standards and practices
- Understand and support projects from other departments from a data perspective
- Adhere to Reds I.T. technical standards, security, and support protocols
Preferable Experience, Education and Licensure:* Prior use of SQL in an academic or professional environment, preferably T-SQL
- Design and/or maintenance of database(s), preferably SQL Server
- Exposure to cloud engineering, preferably Microsoft Azure
- Understanding of serverless architecture and design principles
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:* Intermediate capability with SQL
- Familiarity with Python
- Comfort with unpredictable task assignment
- Ability to manage multiple ongoing projects simultaneously
- Independent worker with interest in finding and solving problems
- Interest in baseball (on field or in the boardroom), strong intellectual curiosity, and ability to work within and between several teams highly desired
Work Environment:* Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
- Remote and hybrid working accommodations are available.
- During the season, candidate may occasionally be asked to work non-traditional hours (nights, weekends, holidays)
Expectations:* Adhere to Cincinnati Reds Organization Policies and Procedures.
- Act as a role model within and outside the Cincinnati Reds Organization. Performs duties as workload necessitates.
- Demonstrate flexible and efficient time management and ability to prioritize workload. Meet Department productivity standards.
