Founded in 2012, Portland Thorns FC have set the standard for fan support and on-field success in women’s soccer since its inaugural 2013 season. One of the world’s most supported women’s soccer clubs, Portland has led the league in attendance for eight seasons and set a new club playoff attendance record last year with 25,218 fans supporting Thorns FC in the 2023 semifinal match at Providence Park. Thorns FC have won the NWSL Championship a league-record three times (2013, 2017, 2022) and finished as runners-up in 2018. The club has made the postseason a league-high nine times and has won the NWSL Shield in 2016 and 2021.

THE ROLE
The Performance Data Coordinator will play a crucial role in supporting the integration of strategic partnerships, with a strong emphasis on performance analytics and reporting, to enhance the Portland Thorns' on-field performance and fan engagement during the season. This position will be responsible for providing unique statistical insights, contributing to the team's competitive edge, and delivering compelling reports on content performance for corporate sponsors. The ideal candidate will be a proactive and detail-oriented individual with a solid foundation in statistical analysis, data interpretation, and communication within a sports context.\

WHAT YOU’LL BE UP TO
• Assist in the execution of partnership activation plans related to game day stats, ensuring alignment with both partner objectives and team priorities.
• Coordinate the delivery of partnership benefits and assets related to the team's technical and performance areas, with an emphasis on statistical information, its application, and its use in sponsor-related content.
• Support the integration of partner resources, including data analysis tools and expertise, into the team's training environment, performance analysis, and player-related initiatives.
• Track and document partnership activities and deliverables related to soccer operations, including the collection, auditing, and reporting of relevant game statistics.
• Develop and deliver regular reports to the Director of CRM & Analytics and other departments, that may provide actionable insights to inform strategic decision-making.  Regularly update corporate sponsors (e.g., First Tech Credit Union) on content performance and audience engagement outcomes.
• Provide league comparative stats on Portland Thorns performance in relation to other key players and teams.
• Manage a recording system to track all game-related statistics.
• Work with the Business Operations team, including marketing and communications, to ensure cohesive and impactful partnership activations, incorporating statistical data into promotional materials and campaigns.
• Liaise with First Tech and other partners on operational matters, ensuring smooth communication and execution of data-related and content initiatives.
• Creating training materials or guides for operations staff on how to effectively manage statistical data and content processes.
• Assisting with the collection and organization of content (photos, videos, quotes, statistical graphics) related to partnership activations within soccer operations for marketing and communication purposes.
• Provide support for any other related duties requested by the reporting manager.

WHAT IT TAKES TO BE A THORN
• Bachelor's degree or degree in process in Statistics, Mathematics, Sports Analytics, Business Administration, or any STEM related field.
• Strong interest in and understanding of soccer, with a passion for analyzing the game through a statistical lens and creating engaging content.
• Excellent organizational and administrative skills, with a keen attention to detail and data accuracy.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively present statistical information and performance data to diverse audiences.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced skills in Excel.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, seasonal environment.
• Ability to audit stats with play-by-play.
• Basic knowledge of professional soccer in the NWSL or a similar industry.
• Ability to take direction but primarily think outside the box and deduce what additional steps need to take place to drive towards the end-goal.
• Previous experience in a sports-related role, particularly in a data-driven capacity, with a focus on reporting and content creation.
• Familiarity with data analysis software.
• Experience in statistical software and data visualization tools.
• Ability to create data driven content for social media platforms.
