Data Scientist

About the job The Data Scientist will be part of Parma Calcio’s growing data team and will be responsible for building, improving, and maintaining models that generate real value from football data. This role is key to enhancing on-pitch performance through the intelligent use of data.

What You’ll Do:

Improve and optimize existing machine learning models and data pipelines. Develop new models using football event and tracking data - from simple rule-based logic to advanced machine learning and deep learning techniques. Manage the full modeling workflow: from data preparation and training to deployment. Introduce and apply lightweight MLOps practices to ensure models are understandable, reusable, and maintainable. Collaborate closely with internal domain experts to make models interpretable, impactful, and aligned with football operations. Work with cloud-based tools (AWS) to support model development and deployment.

Who We’re Looking For:

Proven experience developing and deploying machine learning models (minimum 2 years). Full proficiency in SQL. Strong knowledge of Python, especially libraries like scikit-learn and PyTorch. Hands-on experience with AWS services (e.g. SageMaker, S3, Redshift, Lambda) or similar. Familiarity with MLOps tools and practices. Excellent communication skills and ability to work in cross-functional teams. Fluent English is mandatory (our data team operates fully in English). Willingness and ability to relocate to Parma. Experience working with football data (event or tracking) is a plus. Familiarity with Airflow and dbt is a plus.
