D.C. United, an original Major League Soccer member, seeks qualified applicants to the role of Facilities Engineer, reporting to the Director of Facilities. Energy, passion, and knowledge of building systems and maintenance will contribute to the maintenance and improvement of Audi Field by the Facilities Department and the successful candidate for this role. The Facilities Engineer will assist in the daily operation of Audi Field and D.C. United matches as well as non-DCU events such as competitions featuring Washington Spirit, DC Defenders, DC Power FC, their opponents, and special sporting and non-sporting events throughout the year.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the systems operations of Audi Field as well as electrical and building maintenance, including, but not limited to, carpentry, plumbing, fire suppression, HVAC, refrigeration, door locks, hardware, painting, and lighting. Some specific examples of systems requiring attention are:
- Boilers, Air Handling Units, Domestic Water Systems, and other plumbing equipment
- HVAC systems, including building maintenance system in place
- Emergency power generator
- Basic electrical troubleshooting and maintenance
- Basic vehicle troubleshooting and maintenance
- Assist and perform preventive maintenance on equipment located in multiple buildings at the facility.
- Assist and perform preventive maintenance, repair, inspection, and rebuild as necessary to maintain quality standards on equipment and machinery at the stadium.
- Drive a forklift and operate a scissor lift.
- Perform work in a manner consistent with stadium safety, housekeeping standards, and quality checks.
- Advise Director of Facilities, Manager of Facilities, and VP/Stadium General Manager on facilities maintenance concepts and decision making
- Communicate and collaborate with other internal departments (operations, IT, partnerships, marketing, ticket sales, etc.) to serve company needs for a variety of events and purposes.
- Interact regularly with and occasionally direct third-party housekeeping service to help maintain the facility as a clean and safe environment for fans, vendors, and employees.
- Communicate with, assist, and direct third-party maintenance and improvement vendors providing services on-site.
- Use of web-based and smart device-based software (MaintainX and Asana, among others, training to be provided) to track and communicate tasks and achievements
- Assist and perform stadium facility inspections.
- Will have on-call duties as assigned.
- Must be present for all major events and games.
- May perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

- Understand the methods, principles, and practices required for the operation and maintenance of MEP systems.
- Properly use all equipment needed to perform required duties.
- Be a skilled craftsman in the maintenance field.
- Provide mechanical and troubleshooting skills.
- Basic Knowledge of general techniques in plumbing, electrical wiring, and ventilating systems.
- Basic knowledge to read and comprehend blueprints, drawings, electric motor schematics, and other related materials.
- Effectively operate, maintain, and repair electrical equipment.
- Follow and adhere to all safety precautions, building codes, rules, regulations, risk management, and emergency procedures.
- Organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines.
- Work independently, exercising judgment and initiative.
- Maintain an effective working relationship with clients, employees, exhibitors, patrons, and others encountered in the course of employment.
- Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Good written, verbal, and computer skills.
- Organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines.
- Work in a fast-paced environment.
- Work extended and/or irregular hours including nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
Education and/or Experience:
- High School Diploma/GED required.
- Two (2) or more years’ experience operating and maintaining building Electrical systems.
- Technical HVAC training is preferred but not required.
- Boiler and Heating Systems operation and/or maintenance experience is preferred but not required.
- HVAC Certification I is preferred but not required.
- Previous experience in operating the following equipment: Forklift, Scissor-lifts, as well as other motorized lifting equipment.
Skills and Abilities:
- Follow oral and written instructions and communicate effectively with others in both oral and written form, including but not limited to email, Microsoft software suite, cell phone, smartphone applications, and more.
- Remain flexible and adjust to situations as they occur.
- Work effectively under pressure and/or stringent schedule and produce accurate results.
- Must provide exceptional customer service.
- Must be able to work with others effectively.
- Excellent verbal and written communication required.
- Must be available for on-call, after-hours, and weekend support in a 24/7 environment.
- Knowledge or proficiency in Spanish is preferred.
Computer Skills:
- Operate standard office equipment and personal computer(s) using Outlook, MS Windows, Excel, MS Word, and PowerPoint.
- A working knowledge of Building Automation Systems is required.
Other Qualifications:
- Live within a maximum 60 minutes travel time to Audi Field.
- Be licensed to operate a motor vehicle in the United States.
- Possess any licenses, certificates, or training required by local, state, or national authorities for the operation of the equipment found in the facility.
- The selected candidate must pass a background check.

This job generally operates in conditions that include indoor and outdoor environments, based on tasks performed. Conditions may include varying climate, moderate to high noise levels, vibration into hands, chemicals, blood/body fluids, various fumes, odors, vapors, dust, airborne particles, microbial growth, poor ventilation, moving objects, high elevations, slippery surfaces, carpeted, linoleum, hard surfaced floors or cement, cold temperatures below 32° and above 90° Fahrenheit.
While performing the duties of this job, employees must use safety equipment, PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and be able to sit or stand regularly, have full range of motion with upper and lower body, continual movement to include, but not limited to, walking, bending, stooping, crawling, climbing stairs and ladders up to 18” feet, building heights up to two (2) stories as tolerated by associate, reaching above/below shoulder, crouching, kneeling, carrying, pushing, pulling a minimum of 50 lbs., up to 100 lbs. with assistance, repetitive hand and foot motion, and frequent use of various equipment and small hand tools.
This position requires close visual acuity to perform an activity such as reading, writing, viewing a computer terminal, performing physical tasks.
