Contract Software Engineer - Cloud Automating & Deployment

The Role

We’re seeking a contract-based Software Engineer with expertise in cloud infrastructure and deployment automation. This role is focused on designing and implementing a pipeline that takes raw inputs, processes them, and spins up containerized, cloud-hosted environments on demand. You’ll collaborate directly with our internal developer and head of technology to translate abstract requirements into production-ready automation.

This is a high-impact role: you’ll be responsible for laying the foundation of an automated system that powers large-scale, course-specific computing environments for learners.

Responsibilities

Architect and implement an automated pipeline to provision and deploy new cloud-based environments. Build workflows for file ingestion and orchestration (detect, validate, and route assets into their proper place). Leverage Docker and Google Cloud Platform (GCP) to containerize, configure, and deploy services. Integrate deployment triggers so new environments can be provisioned automatically without manual intervention. Work closely with internal developers to align your pipeline with existing backend processes. Write clear documentation and implementation guides for ongoing maintenance and scalability. Ensure security, scalability, and reliability of deployment workflows.

Requirements

Strong experience with Docker (containerization, image optimization, orchestration). Professional experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services (Compute Engine, Cloud Run, Kubernetes, Cloud Storage, or similar). Proven ability to design automated pipelines for deployment and configuration management. Strong programming/scripting skills (Python, Go, or similar). Familiarity with CI/CD workflows and infrastructure-as-code practices. Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, experimental environment. Clear communication and documentation skills.

Preferred

Experience with education technology, developer tooling, or large-scale cloud deployments. Familiarity with container orchestration (Kubernetes, GKE). Previous work on contract/consulting projects where speed of execution was critical.
