This is a U.S.-based remote position. San Francisco Bay Area employees are highly encouraged to come into the office one day a week. What You’ll Be Doing:

• Lead and inspire a team of frontend, backend, and mobile engineering managers and senior engineers, setting direction and fostering an environment of trust, collaboration, and high performance
• Serve as a strategic and technical leader, representing engineering to executive leadership, product, design, and cross-functional partners
• Drive technical excellence by leading discussions on architecture, design, and long-term platform strategy across iOS, Android, frontend, and backend
• Grow and scale the team by hiring exceptional talent, mentoring future leaders, and ensuring engineers are supported in their career development
• Champion engineering quality and efficiency, advocating for best practices in code, process, and system design while balancing speed and pragmatism
• Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation, introducing new technologies, workflows, and approaches to keep engineering at the cutting edge
• Collaborate across engineering, security, data science, product, and marketing to deliver features that delight millions of outdoor enthusiasts
• Champion the thoughtful adoption of AI-powered tools and workflows, driving experimentation and integration of emerging technologies (e.g., AI agents coordinating workflows and code reviews) to improve developer productivity, quality, and innovation

Requirements:

• 10+ years of building high-performing, healthy mobile teams that addressed increasingly complex technical and organizational challenges
• Deep experience in the iOS or Android native SDK. We prefer iOS candidates to balance our internal team experience
• Actively coached and mentored team members in their careers
• Shipped many large scale projects with multiple dependencies across teams
• Strong communication and analytical skills
• Experience with CI/CD workflows and tools
• Experience with Monitoring, Logging, Reporting, and Alerting frameworks like Crashlytics, Embrace, New Relic, and Datadog
• Proficient with Jira, Confluence, Github, and AI tooling (Cursor, Claude Claude, etc)
• Scrappy, creative problem solver who is willing to dive in wherever is needed
• Consistently made culture choices that positively impact all of engineering

• Believe that strong teams are built on trust and autonomy
• Passion for the outdoors

Nice to Have:

• Experience balancing platform investment with feature delivery in a consumer-scale mobile app
• Exposure to global markets and scaling mobile experiences internationally
• Thought leadership in engineering community engagement (open source, conferences, writing, or speaking)
• Experience building and scaling B2C web and mobile apps and cloud services
