Job Purpose:
The Chicago White Sox are seeking an Applied Sports Science Intern to assist the Sports Science staff with the implementation of new and existing initiatives. In this role, you will support the setup, deployment, and troubleshooting of Sports Science technology, communicate key insights to the Sport Performance Staff, and manage data collection, entry, and quality control within the Athlete Management System. You will gain hands-on experience applying Sports Science in Strength and Conditioning, Athletic Training, Physical Therapy, Nutrition, and the overall Player Development system. 

**Essential Duties and Responsibilities:**Ø  Collaborate with the Sport Science, Athletic Training, Physical Therapy, Strength and Conditioning, and player Development staff to design, plan, and execute projects and initiatives.

Ø  Assist the above-mentioned staff with athlete assessments, player monitoring, data collection, data entry, and analysis.

Ø  Establish strong working relationships with staff and players in order to deliver Sport Science reports and information to positively impact player health, physical development, and daily readiness.

Ø  Assist in operation, maintenance, and implementation of Sports Science related technology.

Ø  Keep up to date on current baseball and Sports Science research.

Ø  Participate in the organization, planning, and implementation of any beta-testing projects within the Sports Science domain.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ø  Strong foundation in a Sports Science related field, such as biomechanics, motor control or exercise physiology.

Ø  Knowledge of data collection techniques, statistical analysis, and ethical research standards.  

Ø  Demonstrated experience with multiple Sports Science related technology platforms.

Ø  Knowledge of a variety of computer applications dealing with word processing, spreadsheets, database, and presentation software (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PowerBi, R Studio etc.).

Ø  Understanding of current baseball research, statistics and strategy as well as typical baseball training, workloads, and gameplay. 

Ø  Ability to communicate effectively with all aspects of baseball operations, scouting, and player development staff.

Ø  Outstanding work ethic and attention to detail

Work Environment:  

Ø  Work is normally performed in the following: interior/office work environment, athletic fields, workout facility and/or in a medical care facility.

Ø  Hours may include nights, weekends and holidays.
