Intern, Prospect Development Pipeline Operations

The Intern, Prospect Development Pipeline (PDP) Operations will support the day-to-day operations of PDP. Work will include event management and data collection using cutting-edge technology to evaluate top amateur baseball talent. The PDP is a collaborative effort between USA Baseball and Major League Baseball that establishes an official identification and player development pathway for amateur baseball players in the United States. Athletes participating in the PDP undergo unique baseball and athletic assessments using state-of-the-art technology as a part of the most comprehensive evaluative experience in any sport. This position will work with a team of interns to facilitate on-site operations and conduct PDP assessments around the country during the summer of 2026. 

Through this single application, USA Baseball will hire 10 interns to serve across the PDP operations assignments. Assignments will be determined based on each candidate’s skills, interests, and availability during the interview process.

Position Details:* Full-time hours (40+ hours/week)

• Duration: May (NO later than June 1) – August 2026 (flexible start and end dates)
• On-site work required (locations vary by assignment)
• Domestic travel involved in this position (all travel costs covered by USA Baseball)

In this Role:
As an Intern, PDP Operations, you will gain immersive experience in player development, data collection, and event operations while supporting the Prospect Development Pipeline (PDP): a collaborative initiative between USA Baseball and Major League Baseball (MLB). You may:

• Assist with the planning and execution of PDP events, including athletic assessments and on-field gameplay.
• Travel nationwide to facilitate operations at regional events for amateur prospects.
• Collect and analyze performance data using advanced technology, including OptoJump, RightEye, Vision, VALD ForceDecks, Rapsodo, and TrackMan.
• Communicate assessment insights to athletes, coaches, and scouts to support player evaluation and development.
• Support post-event data aggregation and reporting to inform long-term athlete development initiatives.
• Contribute to the continued growth of the PDP through the integration of emerging technologies and enhanced data management strategies.

• You are currently pursuing or have recently completed a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
• You have experience within baseball and a passion for the sport and its various elements.
• You demonstrate strong organizational, logistical, and leadership skills.
• You are proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Drive Suite, and Adobe programs.
• You have an interest in sports science and player development.
• You thrive in a team setting, with a positive attitude and strong communication skills.
• You are flexible and adaptable to changing organizational needs.
• You are willing to travel to USA Baseball events and third-party events throughout the United States.
• You can relocate to the Durham/Cary, NC area for the duration of the internship.
• You can successfully complete a background check prior to employment.

Preferred* You have experience in baseball as a player, coach, or administrator.

• You have prior experience in sports event management.
• You have previous experience in sport performance and player development.
• You are familiar with baseball operations software such as Rapsodo, Diamond Kinetics, or Trackman.
• You possess strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
